Job Description

As a Concrete and Aggregate Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for conducting various tests and analyses on concrete and aggregate materials to ensure quality control and compliance with industry standards. Your role will involve performing laboratory experiments, recording and interpreting data, and providing technical support to production teams. Attention to detail, accuracy, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized tests on concrete and aggregate samples according to established procedures and standards.
  • Conduct physical and chemical analyses of materials to assess their properties, including but not limited to compressive strength, moisture content, particle size distribution, and density.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as sieves, ovens, mixers, and testing machines.
  • Prepare samples for testing by following proper handling and preparation techniques.
  • Record and analyze test data accurately, maintaining detailed records of experiments, observations, and results.
  • Interpret test results and communicate findings to the Production team and management.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance to ensure proper functioning and calibration.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while handling hazardous materials and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve testing methods, procedures, and quality assurance processes.
  • Assist in the development of new materials and formulations through experimentation and research.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred. Relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in the construction materials industry.
  • Familiarity with testing methods and standards related to concrete and aggregates.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and instruments, as well as computer software for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in testing procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting procedures, presenting findings, and collaborating with team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed to meet project deadlines or address urgent testing requirements.
