Job Description

The Environmental, Health and Safety Executive reports to the Quality Manager and will be overall responsible for ensuring the development, administration, implementation and monitoring of an occupational health and safety framework and environmental matters across the company.

This is a definite contract of 18 months.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensures the development and updating of the environmental, health and safety policy and procedures manual;
  • Develops and implements basic safety programmes and assists in the development of more complex safety programmes by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes and work activities for hazardous conditions;
  • Establishes standards and procedures to ensure compliance with required Government regulations and company policies;
  • Monitors and audits companywide compliance with environmental health and safety legislation;
  • Coordination of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management System Certification Audits;
  • Review occupational health and safety plans and investigate work-related accidents;
  • Ensures that a culture and awareness of environmental, health and safety issues is spread across the company through informative sessions, seminars etc;
  • Provides health safety and environment-related advice to management and employees in an impartial manner;
  • Ensures that an effective action plan is developed and implemented for environment protection awareness and to ensure the mitigation of occupational health and safety risks;
  • Be actively involved in the workings of the health and safety committee and ensure liaison with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority;
  • Develops or assists in the development of environmental health management plans;
  • Develops or assists in the development and strategies for the safe, economic and suitable disposal of commercial, industrial and domestic waste;
  • Advises and enforces legislation relating to environmental issues.

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications
As a minimum, a recognised diploma (Level 5 MQF) in a discipline related to the technical requirements of the role or possessing the competence, acquired either informally or through formal education, to be able to deal with the technical requirements of the position.

  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in a similar position;
  • Knowledge of government laws and regulations relating to Environment, Health and Safety;
  • Sound knowledge in the field of safety compliance and risk assessment;
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety systems and best practices including those of Waste Management;
  • Possess effective written and oral communication skills including training skills;
  • Ability to give advice on environmental health and safety matters in an open, fair and impartial manner;
  • Possess good analytical skills.
