Job Description

We are searching for an experienced individual to join our growing team as a General Maintenance Assistant. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and upkeep of our facilities, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for both guests and staff. This role involves a variety of tasks, including basic repair work, preventative maintenance and assisting with various projects as needed.

This position calls for experienced candidates, with strong problem-solving skills and who pride themselves on delivering a high-quality standard of work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regularly inspect buildings, furniture, appliances, and equipment including heating, plumbing and drainage for damage or wear and tear, and arrange corrective works as necessary.
  • Assists in the implementation of a regular preventative maintenance programme for the hotel’s equipment and facilities, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Communicates with guests and members of staff to resolve maintenance issues with little or no supervision in the least amount of time possible.
  • Carry out room checks before the arrival of guests as per the checklist provided.
  • Performs basic repair on all types of equipment (e.g. pump replacement), plumbing (e.g. plunge toilets and unclog drains), electrical equipment including lamps, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, replace electrical switches and other guestroom items.
  • Provide HVAC support by assisting in maintaining the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems by changing filters, reporting issues and helping with system checks.
  • Carries out carpentry-related jobs as required.
  • Performs routine readings and rounds as required.
  • Assists with painting and decorating tasks, as well as maintaining the appearance of walls, ceilings and other surfaces.
  • Properly maintains tools and equipment, keeps an organised inventory and reports any need for replacement or repair of items.
  • Adheres to all safety guidelines and ensures a safe working environment, reporting any safety hazards or concerns promptly.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities and provides regular reports to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintains a courteous and professional demeanour when interacting with guests, offering assistance when required.
  • Carries out other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have previous general maintenance experience, ideally in a hotel environment.
  • Knowledge of plastering and painting works.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently but also as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in the English language.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects.
  • Willing to work weekends and public holidays.
