Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Optical Lab Technician to work in our Quality Control department to plan, manage and carry out quality control procedures on all optical jobs being processed in the Optical Laboratory. The role entails proper screening of optical jobs, identification of any defects and subsequent returns to relevant processing departments reporting on defects found and approval of the release of optical jobs to clients.

This is a highly detailed job, with a considerable amount of responsibility, as prescription accuracy is one of the most important priorities in our business. This individual will work closely with other lab team members to process high-quality eyeglasses in the optical laboratory. The primary responsibility of this position will be to inspect orders post-production for accuracy of fulfilment.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse all optical jobs prior to dispatch to clients and approve the release
  • Adhere to set quality standards as agreed with management
  • Use a lens meter and interpret the results and findings
  • Interpret customers’ prescription requirements and have an understanding of the order as produced by our Ordering department
  • Troubleshoot issues of production and catch errors pertaining to order prescription, measurements, lens type, and frame and identification and highlighting of defects and any other deformities and return the item to the appropriate Lab department
  • Ensure all orders are filled accurately and in a timely manner
  • Assist in packaging and shipping of all completed orders
  • Master our internal lab management system in order to efficiently and effectively process orders
  • Assist in maintaining the lab area and equipment in a safe and organised manner
  • When needed, multi-task to cover more than one workstation, in order to maintain a steady workflow

Other duties

  • Edge high-quality lenses using our state-of-the-art edging machinery
  • Mount prescription lenses manually into each frame
  • Align eyeglasses according to the technical specifications. This will require optical training to become fully proficient
  • Work alongside our other teams to obtain and verify prescriptions and other required optical measurements
  • Responsible for invoicing of products once these pass quality control
  • Release and dispatch of products at the end of the day
  • Assisting other company departments when required
  • Any other duties might be required from time to time

Requirements

  • 5+ years working in an optical lens manufacturing environment is required
  • 2+ years working in Quality Control of optical lenses or related
  • Technology and computer literate
  • Highly organised and efficient
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly reliable and dependable
  • Ability to meet targets
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Motivated and dependable with a customer-friendly attitude
  • Effective and confident communicator

Working hours

  • 7am – 3.30pm (Monday – Friday) 40hrs / week
