Job Description

Overall Responsibility
The Guidance Administrator is an educator responsible for providing academic, career, and personal / social competencies to all ITS students. Furthermore, the Guidance Administrator needs to provide important mental health and education support services to help students throughout their school careers and help students with personal problems, provide guidance on future educational and career options and assist parents and school staff with understanding and resolving issues with students.

Main Responsibilities
The key duties of the Guidance Administrator are to:

  • Offer guidance to promote effective learning and higher educational attainment and further the personal development of students;
  • Organise student-centred guidance programmes to further all aspects of the personal development of students including intellectual, social, emotional and vocational development;
  • Organise guidance programmes and interventions concerned with the identification of different needs and the implementation of strategies to meet these needs;
  • Empower students to take responsibility for themselves, for their own development and learning rather than imposing particular standpoints, values and decisions;
  • Identify and meet the personal, emotional and social needs of students and help them to deal successfully with their concerns;
  • Help students overcome transitions from post-secondary to work;
  • Refer students to the appropriate services offered by study services and/or support agencies;
  • Liaise with College Counsellors, College Career Advisors, School Counsellors, Counsellors, Trainee Career Advisors, Trainee Counsellors and other support staff for the good of the students;
  • Organise career orientation visits, talks and seminars regarding career paths at ITS;
  • Prepare the student for the place of work, organise and participate in career exposure initiatives;
  • Organise meetings and/or seminars / talks for parents regarding personal and career issues;
  • Liaise with the Senior Management team regarding the well-being of students;
  • Log in all the referred cases reported accordingly and provide the necessary statistics;
  • Implement any other related duties according to the exigencies of the Institute of Tourism Studies as directed by the COO Academia.
  • Coordinate with:
    • Registrar’s department;
    • Counsellor;
    • All members of the organisation and external organisations and their representatives.
  • Supervision received:
    • The Registrar;
    • General supervision from Manager – Student Support Services and COO – Academia.
  • Self-improvement:
    • To develop and maintain a good understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry;
    • To know in depth all the courses that the Institute of Tourism has to offer;
    • To know all other options that are available at post-secondary level onwards;
    • To undertake appropriate leadership and management training within the context of continuous professional development; the programme agreed with the COO Academia.
  • Abnormal working conditions:
    • Ability to work under pressure;
    • Occasionally will be required to work on weekends due to the exigencies of the job;
    • Work-related travel might be required from time to time.

Eligibility Criteria

  • In possession of a recognised qualification at MQF level 6 (180 to 240 credits) or equivalent in a social science subject, including but not limited to Lifelong Career Guidance, Human Resources, Sociology, Social Studies, Psychology, Youth Work and Social Policy and at least one (1) year proven work experience in an educational institution; Or
  • In possession of a recognised qualification at MQF level 5 (60 to 120 credits) or equivalent in a social science subject, including but not limited to Lifelong Career Guidance, Human Resources, Sociology, Social Studies, Psychology, Youth Work and Social Policy and at least three (3) years proven work experience in an educational institution; Or
  • In possession of a recognised qualification at MQF level 4 (60 to 120 credits) or equivalent in a social science subject, including but not limited to Lifelong Career Guidance, Human Resources, Sociology, Social Studies, Psychology, Youth Work and Social Policy and at least six (6) years proven work experience in an educational institution.
