Job Description

Organisation Setting
The IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) was established in Malta in 1988 under an agreement concluded between the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Government of Malta. IMLI started its first programme in 1989. Its main purpose is to train maritime professionals in the full spectrum of international maritime law. Over the last thirty-five years, IMLI’s work has contributed to the establishment of a cadre of experts in international maritime law who are able to prepare, review and advise on the implementation of maritime laws and regulations.

The Role
Under the overall supervision of the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring effective project management of the assigned projects by maintaining the delivery of appropriate technical, operational, financial and administrative outputs, while tracking the project progress through monitoring, evaluation and reporting. The incumbent will also be responsible for identifying potential partners, engaging in negotiations, and formalizing agreements.

Qualifications
A university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, or another related field is required. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be considered an asset.

Work Experience
Experience in project management or a similar position would be considered an asset.

Planning and organizing: The job will involve both Partnership Development and Project Management. The Officer will be the key person for establishing, maintaining, and expanding partnerships that further the Institute’s mission. Concurrently, the Officer will lead the planning and execution of various collaborative projects, ensuring they align with strategic objectives and partnership agreements. This includes defining project scope, establishing objectives, and delivering on targets and milestones within agreed timelines. The incumbent will manage resources effectively, monitor progress, and maintain transparent communication with the Director and all stakeholders. In a dual capacity, the officer will solve problems, make adjustments to strategies, and implement changes as necessary to achieve project goals and strengthen partnerships. Post-project evaluation and the assessment of partnership outcomes will be integral to inform continuous improvement and future initiatives.

Languages and Computer Skills
As the Institute’s working language is English, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential. Knowledge of one or more of the official languages of the United Nations will be an advantage. Good computer skills are essential.

Special Notice
This position is open for an initial period of two years with six months’ probation period, with the possibility of renewal.
