Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is skilled in a wide range of repairs in a commercial setting, encompassing tasks from minor fixes to major renovations. Their responsibilities include plumbing, electrical, and carpentry issues, always ensuring that buildings and their systems operate efficiently and safely.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing maintenance and preventive maintenance on all machines and equipment and informing the maintenance supervisor about their status.
  • Attending all new room arrivals as guided by the front of the house.
  • Following preventive maintenance schedules to cover different areas like electrical, plumbing, furniture, civil works, a/c, illumination, mechanical, and plants.
  • Keeping a record of all areas and rooms that require preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Providing maintenance service as required in areas including plumbing, basic electrical support, air conditioning, civil works, furniture, painting and plastering, among others.
  • Keeping the maintenance department organised, and taking care of tools provided.
  • Being responsible for maintenance works assigned.
  • Being disciplined in work carried out.  
  • Liaising with the maintenance supervisor and keeping them informed about work done during and out of the shift, including any non-normal issues encountered during the duty.
  • Diagnosing issues and determining the most effective course of action for repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensuring that the root causes of maintenance issues are identified and tackled in the most efficient manner possible to ensure the resolution of maintenance challenges.
  • Being polite and respectful to all colleagues and guests, at all times.
  • Carrying the mobile phone as required and always answering calls or messages immediately, or when safe to do so.
  • Taking utmost care of hotel equipment and devices such as lifts, computers, radios, and working tools.
  • When working the first morning shift, checking the pool’s status and verifying levels of chl and acid, and ensuring daily cleaning.
  • Being proficient in a wide range of repair, maintenance, and installation tasks including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting. Able to use various tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Possessing an understanding of safety procedures and regulations, including the use of protective equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Maintaining and repairing tools and equipment used in daily tasks, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Being aware of national health and safety legislation and regulations to ensure compliance in all repair and maintenance work.
  • Assisting the other department team members in all areas, as required and as directed.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Capable of working on own initiative and in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Be capable of using MS Word / Excel and the MS Office package.
  • Have a good eye for detail.
  • Possess excellent organisation, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Be committed to providing exceptional guest services.
  • Physically fit as the job may involve lifting heavy items, climbing ladders, and performing tasks at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Able to manage time efficiently, prioritise tasks, and work within deadlines, sometimes handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing systems to diagnose and repair common issues.
  • Understanding of construction principles, including framing, drywall installation, and the ability to perform minor remodelling tasks.
  • Knowledge of routine maintenance tasks to prevent future repairs and extend the lifespan of property features.
