Job Description
MOAS was founded in 2014 as the first search and rescue operation of its kind, determined to mitigate the loss of human life on deadly maritime migration routes, mainly in the Mediterranean. Three years later, MOAS has rescued and assisted over 40,000 children, women and men fleeing violence, poverty and persecution.

This year MOAS is delivering humanitarian aid and medical assistance to the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, working with established NGOs. From there, MOAS will deliver much-needed humanitarian assistance and aid to the Rohingya people, and will work to provide a platform for transparency, advocacy and accountability in the region where a deadly exodus is unfolding on the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Job Summary
The PR and Communications Officer will assist with providing compelling content and communicating various initiatives across a multitude of social media channels and other platforms. He/she must be creative, ambitious, proactive and energetic with plenty of ideas and solutions for designing, writing and communicating optimised content.

Key Duties:
  • Assist with handling media, public relations, cultural mediation, research initiatives and external communications for MOAS
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of press releases
  • Research and create content for publication on the NGO’s websites
  • Assist with the preparation and maintaining of the PR agenda
  • Social media monitoring of the organisation’s mentions as well migration related material at large
  • Assist with managing social media profiles and conversation posts on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+ etc. to ensure social media channels remain engaging and active, including live tweeting from events and monitoring commentary
  • Assist with the preparation of talking points for interviews or speeches
  • Following a rescue, carry out interviews with multiple individuals, create a system in which to keep in touch with individual’s post disembarkation and connect the office team to follow up
  • Coordinates calendars and schedules to ensure effective time management and prioritisation of engagements where necessary
  • Provide administrative support for project work and ad hoc activities as necessary
  • Support the MOAS organisation with other duties as they arise

Key Attributes:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken Italian and English
  • Work experience with an NGO focusing on humanitarian aid is an asset
  • Degree in politics, international relations, international development or journalism’ or equivalent experience working in a relevant field
  • An in depth understanding of the migration field
  • Ability to analyse information and write clear, concise and structured summaries
  • Excellent ability to thrive in a sometimes stressful, deadline driven environment while working with a closely-knit team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to recognise and work effectively in compliance with internal policies and external constraints
  • Must be willing to travel for work
  • A good team player and able to work with people at all levels
  • Flexible to changes and shows ability to adapt to situations as / when they arise
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
