Job Description

Jobsplus provides local jobseekers and employers with successful and rewarding work experiences by empowering, assisting and training job seekers; promoting workforce development; and assisting employers in their recruitment and training needs.

We are seeking to recruit a Job Coach within the Jobseeker Services Division on a full-time indefinite basis.

The selected candidate is mainly required to work in Gozo.

Job Requirements:

  • Either three O’ levels (Grades from 1 to 5 or A to C) or three recognized relevant certificates at MQF Level 3, and one-year work experience with a person with persons with disability.
  • or an MCAST Foundation Certificate in Care or a recognized, relevant certificate at MQF Level 2, and three years’ work experience with persons with disability.

Work experience must be certified with letters of reference or engagement forms. Applicants must also be IT literate and be able to communicate well in Maltese and English.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Getting to know the trainee and the job well before starting the working process.
  • Systematically analysing work routines and environments so as to plan and provide appropriate and effective training, supervision, and support.
  • Providing compensatory education sessions and support the individual trainee to further develop their literacy education.
  • Supporting trainees whilst they practice different work tasks. This involves:
    • Systematically analysing work routines and environments so as to plan and provide appropriate and effective training, supervision and support.
      Breaking work into reachable tasks.
    • Observing and assessing trainees’ performance and behaviour.
    • Contacting potential employers offering work exposure experience to confirm attendance or inform him / her of any changes.
  • Addressing possible challenging behaviour, ensuring the safety and welfare of all trainees – using techniques prescribed through relevant training and referring to the Unit Manager (Sheltered Employment Training) as required.
  • Provide the necessary on-site and off-site support for the trainees for fuller integration and to foster a successful work experience.
  • Provide the training and supervision which ensure the trainees understand the work requirements and perform them as independently as possible.
  • Training trainees in all job-related aspects and routines, getting to and from work, making use of toilet and canteen facilities, applying for a day off, dressing up properly, addressing other colleagues and supervisors, etc.
  • Monitor the trainee’s development, job performance and job satisfaction.
  • Keeping up to date records / documentation of trainees’ performance, strengths, areas for development.
  • Attending trainee reviews.
  • Help the trainee to find a mentor, make friends and facilitate social integration.
  • To support the trainee’s colleagues, supervisors and the family, in adjusting to and working with the trainee.
  • To ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with ‘best practice’ risk management.
  • Job Coaches based in Gozo may need to travel to Malta as well.
  • To undertake any other duty which may be allocated, within the general scope of the post.
