Job Description

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Electrical Engineer will assist in taking decisions to ensure that the operational requirements of the assigned projects run smoothly, on time and cost-effectively.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and oversee all aspects of projects from start to post-completion;
  • Be responsible for the calculations of costings, engineering, commissioning as well as approvals to comply with legislation;
  • Ensure project cost control and cost reductions where possible, prepare and complete commercial reconciliation on a regular basis to highlight areas of overspending or savings thus appropriate action can be taken;
  • Conduct site visits for the purpose of assessment, evaluation, projections and progress reports, at various stages of the project;
  • Ensure that any changes / deviations from the project plan are brought to attention, cost and documented officially in line with company procedure. Any changes in design and / or client requirements must be clearly documented and recorded together with any cost implications accompanying the variation while ensuring that the customer’s acceptance / approval is obtained in writing;
  • Measure, compute and prepare details required for payment claims (as per agreed terms and conditions of service) whether interim or final valuations / payment assessments;
  • Preparation of project final account and final actual BOQ, analysis of completed projects to determine the return on investment / profitability and identify areas of weakness to be taken into consideration for improvement to maximize cost effectiveness on other projects;
  • Assisting in contract closing, including resolution of disputes that may arise, and performing contract assessment. Organising and holding project summary briefings for the Management team for the presentation of the final account, with the aim of highlighting best practices, weaknesses and lessons learnt;
  • Ensuring that all legal, health and safety obligations are met and recommending ways and means to update as necessary;
  • Set and monitor the workload schedule and assist the project teams to develop and manage budgets, schedules and deliverables for each project phase and functional area;
  • Managing on-site operations and providing technical support and guidance, solving arising site technical issues;
  • Determining project costs by calculating labour, material and related costs;
  • Assist in the testing and commissioning of projects;
  • Prepare, implement and oversee the project programme, including the delivery strategy and ensure project milestones are achieved.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • A valid warrant to practice in Malta;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role;
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Maltese;
  • Strong organisation skills, adaptability, diagnostics and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and take an overview of a large number of projects at any one time.
