Job Description

CE Installations Ltd. provides both the installation and maintenance of Mechanical and Electrical services for a wide variety of customers across a diverse range of projects.

CE Installations has over 200 multi-cultural employees and due to recent growth, the company is seeking to recruit a head of the Drafting, Design and Take-offs Manager to join our dynamic team.

Whilst reporting to the General Manager, the Drafting, Design and Take-offs Manager is expected to lead and ensure that the team are formulating drafts and designs which are practical and that meet the clients’ expectations. The Drafting, Design and Take-offs Manager is expected to lead and ensure that the Design, Drafting and Take-offs team are adhering to the industry standards and procedures. The chosen candidate is expected to asses and analyses working plans including rough and detailed sketches. The Drafting, Design and Take-offs Manager is expected to use clear and concise drawings by communicating design ideas to the third parties.

General Duties

  • Implement the strategy of CE Installations Ltd. by monitoring the day-to-day activities of the drafting, design and take-offs operations
  • Take an active role and participate in the managerial team of CE Installations Ltd
  • Prepare departments’ progress or status reports
  • Analyse and deal with issues which arise from drafting and design work
  • Plan and monitor the Drafting, Design and Take-offs departmental budget
  • Attend relevant training and workshops to increase own knowledge
  • Travel to attend conventions and similar events, while also gaining more knowledge and practices

Team Development Duties

  • Prepare employee work schedules and assign specific duties
  • Coach and mentor employees
  • Formulate a career development plan for each employee within the team
  • Manage and monitor key performance indicators set for the Drafting, Design and Take-offs department
  • Handle the employees’ performance appraisals within the department
  • Take part in the recruitment and selection process

Departmental Duties

  • Implement cost-effective practices that maximise efficiency both efficiency, creativity and innovation in all procedures within the Drafting, Design and Take-Offs department
  • Meet clients to discuss their expectations, style preferences and other related areas
  • Monitor and coordinate working plans, detailed drawings and sketches and the design work comprised in the entire construction processes
  • Communicate working plans and as fitted drawings to the Quantity Surveyor department and Project Scheduling and Implementation department
  • Manage all needed designs and drafts to be issued for the bill of quantities by the Tendering department
  • Give consultations on design costs to the Tendering department
  • Provide project procurement lists to the Procurement department
  • Liaise with the Project Scheduling and Implementation department to evaluate revisions of working plans at staged intervals
  • Give consultation to the Project Scheduling and Implementation department during the project briefing stage
  • Evaluate and assess all prepared drafts and designs by ensuring that they are up to the technical specifications and in line with the applicable regulations
  • Develop effective project drafting and design standards and technical milestones to ensure that all the works are submitted in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all amendments and staged variations to the original drawings are updated as instructed by the Project Scheduling and Implementation department

Work Schedule
40 hours a week from Monday to Friday, provided that the chosen candidate is bound to put in all the necessary hours required for the efficient performance of his/her duties

Experience

  • Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar position within the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC industry

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Extensive knowledge on technical, regulatory and commercial issues in relation to design considerations
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated and proactive
  • Result-oriented and a highly determined individual
  • A great sense of work ethic and dedicated to contributing towards the overall success of the company’s vision
  • Personal qualities such as confidence, integrity and resilience
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues
  • Ability to take control and manage deadlines successfully
  • Must be highly organised with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills and problem sensitivity awareness
  • Have a good command of speaking and writing skills in English and Maltese will be considered an asset

Education and Training

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in Interior Architecture and Design or any other related academic field
  • European passport or working permission to work in Malta
  • Clean police conduct certificate (must be presented)
