Due to recent growth, the company is seeking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join our dynamic team.

The Role
The Assistant Accountant shall be responsible to handle all accounting functions and duties of our clients’ and ensure that financial records are complete. The chosen candidate is expected to monitor and perform any combination of routine calculating, posting and verifying duties to obtain financial data for use in maintaining records. He / she shall also be responsible to verify the accuracy of figures, calculations and postings pertaining to business transactions.

Duties

  • Responsible for the preparation of timely, accurate monthly management accounts
  • Accountable to maintain financial and account records
  • Oversee bookkeeping activities
  • Compile and verify financial data
  • Monitor and calculate issuing of invoices, bills and account statements or other financial statements according to established procedures
  • Record financial transactions and check financial records for accuracy
  • Prepare VAT returns, payroll calculations and related paperwork
  • Carry out bank and other balance sheet accounts reconciliations on a regular basis
  • Preparation of tax returns and related tasks
  • Liaise with management regarding the financial implications and consequences of business decisions made
  • Analyse and deal with issues that arise from the accounting work
  • Generate ideas to come up with an effective workflow of the bookkeeping department and overall accounting processes
  • Mediate with the companies’ external auditors and other advisors to ensure that financial statements are aligned to the company’s set deadlines
  • Handle effectively the daily and monthly end record keeping and financial transactions
  • Be responsible to manage the company’s cash flow and treasury function

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours a week from Monday to Friday

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with clients
  • Be detail-oriented and highly organised
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Be proactive and have a systematic work method approach
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Result-oriented and a highly determined individual
  • Have an excellent command of speaking and writing skills in English and preferably Maltese
  • Good command of speaking and writing skills in Italian would be considered an asset
  • Able to use Microsoft Office programmes like Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Education and Training

  • Fully qualified Accountant or partially qualified with minimum 5-year experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping procedures and debt collection
  • Be in possession of own vehicle and driving license category B
  • Clean police conduct certificate (must be presented)
  • European passport or working permission to work in Malta
