Job Description

The HR Officer assists the HR Director in delivering the people plan and ensuring a high-quality employee experience across the American University of Malta.

The main responsibilities of the HR Officer include:

  • Assisting the HR Director in the day-to-day running of the HR Function ensuring an efficient and effective delivery of HR services
  • Assisting and participating in HR projects and initiatives
  • Preparing and maintaining employment records for all employees both on the HR and Payroll system
  • Maintaining and updating HR documents such as personnel files, HR policies, procedures and templates
  • Responsible for the payroll process including timely and accurate submission of returns to IRD
  • Producing and generating MI such as in relation to Reward and Performance Management
  • Assisting and guiding employees requiring a residence or work permit ensuring timely renewals of any existing permits
  • Assisting in the recruitment, on-boarding, performance management and other HR processes
  • Handling queries from, and acting as point of reference for, employees on HR matters
  • Liaising with external bodies such ID Malta, Jobs Plus and IRD
  • Carrying out other duties as required by the HR Director

Experience and requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as HR Officer or similar role
  • Demonstrable experience in running payroll
  • Experience with the work and residence permit process
  • Familiar with local employment legislation and requirements
  • Strong team player with a high sense of initiative
  • Able to work without supervision
  • Flexible and positive attitude
  • Preferably in possession of studying towards obtaining an HR qualification
