ATHE Level 6 Certificate in Coaching
This Level 6 qualification is designed to develop knowledge, understanding, and skills in professional coaching to meet the needs of individual clients and the organisations where they are employed.
The program will provide the opportunity for learners to develop and apply coaching approaches, strategies, and techniques that can be used for a wide range of individuals in and across organisations operating in different sectors. The program will establish the connection between coaching and the achievement of personal effectiveness, professional performance, and organisational goals.

Who is it For?
This qualification is designed for professionals who have the appropriate levels of experience and maturity to take on the role of professional coach. It is ideal for professionals who want to acquire knowledge and develop a range of skills, personal qualities, and attitudes essential for effective professional coaching within a business or organisational context.
Prerequisites
- Minimum 21 years of age
- B2 level of English achieved in the last 5 years (English Language O-level grade 5+ or IELTS 5.5+ or equivalent
(MBS offers a free English Proficiency assessment if you do not have any of the above certificates) - Participants are expected to identify one or more individuals that they coach as part of their practice
- Have an MQF / EQF Level 5 or Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject area or other equivalent international qualification OR
- 2 years of full-time relevant work experience with a level of managerial, training, or people development responsibility
Progression Opportunities
Participants who successfully complete this programme may be able to reach higher levels of responsibility in their job roles. They may also be able to progress to qualifications in Management at Level 6 or Level 7 or higher-level qualifications in Coaching. These progression opportunities may also depend on other qualifications achieved by individuals and experience gained in the workplace.
Course Modules
The unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the differences between coaching and mentoring, their application, and the principles and practices which can be used in coaching and mentoring situations. This will provide a basis for learners to build skills in these areas.
By the end of Unit 1, learners will be able to:
- Explain the context of coaching and mentoring in organisations
- Apply the principles and practices required for coaching and mentoring in organisations
- Evaluate the impact of coaching and mentoring
This unit aims to support learners in identifying their own development needs in the context of coaching and mentoring and to plan to meet those needs. It also emphasizes the need for continuing professional development and review of own activities that will lead to continuous improvement as a coach and/or mentor.
By the end of Unit 2, learners will be able to:
- Assess own skills, knowledge, and understanding for coaching and mentoring
- Prepare your own development plan to support development as a coach and mentor
- Review own performance as a coach/mentor on an ongoing basis
The aims of this unit are to develop coaching practices for those working with people in organisations. This will support increased knowledge, understanding, and skills, needed for the personal and professional development of the coachee and to facilitate organisational success.
By the end of Unit 3, learners will be able to:
- Determine the role of coaching for people in businesses/organisations
- Manage the coaching context and relationship
- Provide effective coaching in organisations
