Interviews can be daunting to say the least, but our experts at KeepMePosted are offering some tips to help ease you through the process and hopefully get you the job!
- Find out as much as you can about the job and the company which is offering it.
- Double-check the time and place of the interview. Map out the location and have a back-up plan in case of a traffic problem.
- Items which may be required - CV, the letter which invited you to the interview, a map, the employer's phone number. What about certificates or references?
- Arrive early. Be polite and courteous; shake hands firmly and smile with all members of staff who speak to you.
- Body language: aim to appear relaxed and confident, without crossing the line and seeming cocky. Do not lounge about on your chair or sit excitedly on the edge. Eye contact should be maintained.
- It is a competition but think positive. Try to walk into the room with a degree of curiosity and willing to learn from the experience.
- Listen.
- Interviewers do not expect you to rapid-fire replies to all their questions. Allow yourself a few moments to think if need be.
- Try not to let your nerves get the better of you. Abrupt "Yes" and "No" answers are not appreciated, nor is lengthy, idle chatter. Keep your answers clear and concise.
- Highlight your strengths. Saying you are good at something does not mean you are arrogant. Have answers prepared for questions that may uncover a weakness.
